• Publish fabricated quotes or fabricated sources
• Publish synthetic media without disclosing it

Where AI may assist, with human oversight

• Organizing research
• Language review
• Editorial quality checks
• Fact-checking assistance
• Plagiarism screening
• Technical publishing tasks

AI tools are never treated as authoritative fact-checkers. Human editors are responsible for verifying claims and sources.

Disclosure

When AI assistance was used on a story, the story says so: which tool, what it was used for, whether a human editor verified the result, and which editor is responsible.

We do not describe work as human-authored based on the score of an AI-detection tool.
